Can taking birth control pills for PCOS help you lose the weight?
the weight that you've gained as a part of PCOS??Important question about PCOS and birth control, no spammers please..?
A good treatment for PCOS is metformin, which incidentally decreases insulin resistance and promotes weight loss.Important question about PCOS and birth control, no spammers please..?
Here is my experience with PCOS and the birth control pill.
I had gained weight during my twenties and had trouble keeping it down.
I gained more weight while I was on the pill for fourteen years (twenty pounds). My weight went down after I went off of it two years ago. I lost that twenty pounds over a period of six months.
Birth control pills are known for weight gain and for us with PCOS, it can be worse. I would avoid them if you can; unless you need them to regulate your periods. If you do go on them, get the low dose ones. Less side effects; though it didn't help me with my weight any.
My doctor never put me on Metaformin.
i agree with the answer-er above... Metformin is used to treat diabetes (which i have.. and take) and it is commonly used to treat PCOS (my best friend has PCOS and just had her first baby after 6mo of Metformin) Metformin reduces the glucose (sugar) that your liver makes, and makes your muscles use the glucose more effectively. Exercise and drinking plenty of water will also help you loose weight.
I dont think that BCP can help you loose weight... some actually make you gain a few pounds.. i did while i was on Othotricylin-Lo..
