How to stop obsessing/worrying about things i have no control over?

when i'm trying to fall asleep at night, my mind is consumed with the worst stuff imagineable... i lay there knowing someone somewhere is hurting, dying, being raped or a child is being molested... or i worry for my own family, like all of us dying in a car wreck or a housefire. it sucks, because i can't seem to turn it off!! i'm to the point i don't even watch the news anymore. any other suggestions?How to stop obsessing/worrying about things i have no control over?
If your best friend told you that they have this same problem, what would you tell them? Be your own best friend. The answers to all of your questions are already inside of you. Go within yourself. Instead of thinking about all of those things that are out of your control, decide to change the only thing that you can change. Your perception of those things. First, believe that you can change your thinking, then just do it. It doesn't mean that you dont care if you dont feel badly about all the pain and problems in the world. The reality is that you just can't fix everything that needs to be fixed. Accept that and know that your life is already perfect. It's just some of the situations i life that are taking away your peace of mind. Try thinking about this.....when you were created within your mother, it was like you won a lottery. Understand the concept of the odds against you actually being here, experiencing life...whatever life actually is. With all its problems, with all its pain....this thing called life is just the greatest prize everyone has already won.How to stop obsessing/worrying about things i have no control over?
You should go talk to a doctor, because it sounds like you may have an anxiety disorder.
Whenever I have an anxiety attack at home, I do some breathing exercises my doctor recommended. It seems a little silly at first, but it really works. It certainly calms my nerves and relaxes my body, and it even helps me get my mind off of things I have no control over.

The best thing to do is to get a cheap tape recorder first, and tape yourself reading the instructions aloud for each of the exercises. Then while you go back and listen to the instructions, you can lay down and concentrate on your breathing and body. It's really quite helpful.
do you get plenty of exercise? i as well have racing thoughts of the good the bad and the ugly and if i don't drink myself to sleep, i find that fresh air(if you can find it) and exercise is way more healthy than drinking and actually works a lot better.
Hi,

I have the perfect solution to your question, but it requires a little work on your part as does anything that is worth something!! You have to watch a movie called ';the secret';!! It will provide some answers directly related to your question here. Its phenominal!! Please please please give it a try. What do you have to lose?

God Bless~~
Sweetie I would go to the Dr. I can relate to all you have said and that is when the Dr told me I had OCD. I am not a Dr and this is only my opinion and experience. You aren't alone but seek help, see below.

';What is obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)?

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a potentially disabling anxiety disorder. A person who has OCD has intrusive and unwanted thoughts and repeatedly performs tasks to get rid of the thoughts. For example, if you have OCD, you may fear that everything you touch is contaminated with germs, and in order to ease that fear, you repeatedly wash your hands.

The effects of OCD range from mild to severe. OCD can disrupt your social life and relationships as well as your ability to work or go to school.1';
Write it down...or pray about it.
try focusing on good things like your family, your next vacation, your pet, how grateful you are you are a healthy individual with a family that loves you, and all that. Or you can try reading a good book which will keep your mind off of that....

or better yet, read a book about inspiration.

There's always going to be bad things in the world, but just be aware of the things you can control.
Let go and let God!!

Also try to write in a journal before bed, I do, it gets things off of your mind and on paper so maybe you can rest.

Start thinking of things you are grateful for, tell Satan to get behind you okay??????
definitely dont watch the news if you are that sensitive, write in your journal before bed all the thoughts on your mind, it doesnt have to make sense just write it down , read before bed, and make a conscious choice.
First of all, are you sure it is a problem? Is your mind simply working out the events of the day, finding the means to cope?

Read a good book

Find other things to think about

Get more physical exercise to build your confidence at overcoming challenges and conquering fears.

Listen to quiet soothing music at bed time; classical, jazz, indie, nature, new age... whatever floats your boat. Fall asleep to music.

Lastly, if you're really sure this is a problem, then do a Yahoo! search on ';thought stopping.'; There are lots of articles and whole books written on the topic.

Good luck, and ';don't worry, be happy...';
if your a christian or if your not this always helps me i used to have the same problem i would always think about this just pray to god and tell him that you need him to help you and that you need his help and that you cant do it without him it really helps and it will bring you closer to him
I feel for you. Do you like to read? Read a good inspiration book. Go see a comedy. Fill your life with Nature. Take time for yourself. Have you heard of ';The Secret'; (DVD) It's really good. I have 2 copies and watch it at least 3 or 4 times a week to remind me of the greatest things I am capable of. And you can to. I shared it with friends and neighbors. It has changed their lives for the better. If you are down it will lift you up. Opra recommended it!. Watch it when you start to obsess/worry. Best wishes to you.
Well, it has been said in Matthew 6:27, ';Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?';

I certainly agree with that, but it's hard to put that into practice sometimes. In addition to praying / meditating, letting go and letting God (all good things to do, by the way), it's probably best to at least talk to someone about your problem; a close friend or family member whom you can trust, or a professional councilor (Christian would be preferred) would probably be a wise choice.

This isn't something you're going to solve on your own, you're going to need someone to help you, but that's the best part!
Aww! My dear, you have such a compassionate heart. It is good for all of us to be aware of the fact that there are other people in the world that are hurting so we don't get caught up in our own selves, forsaking all others. But loosing sleep over it is not going to help anyone, especially you! Try praying for those in need when you have those thoughts. Know that God is in control, and he will come through for us. Relax and stop trying to control things you can't! Good luck!
Try meditating or praying before bed.
Some of us are natural worriers and the things we worry most about usually don't happen. Try some relaxation before going to bed. For many people it is just reading a good book. For me, I usually sit and play a few card games on the computer. If this persist, you may need to talk to the Doctor about it. This is anxiety which a lot of us have. It isn't just in our head. Many things can go wrong with our mental health, Good luck.
Did you ever experience a tragic event? If not it could possibly be just be obsessive compulsive disorder and is not uncommon. So talk to a psychologist about it. If psychological intervention alone does not work try discussing with a psychiatrist about medication. Another option would also be cognitive therapy were a psychologist can help you rationalize against your fears. (I use to have those symptoms before too but was successfully treated with psychological intervention, cognitive therapy, and Prozac)
