Do you really have to get your period every month by no longer taking your birth control pills?

Is this really necessary? Or can you just take your birth control continuously, without having to stop in order to get your period. Basically, is it ok not to get your period at all anymore? Or does it depend on which birth control pill you take?Do you really have to get your period every month by no longer taking your birth control pills?
You should have a period every month. Most BC pills have you take them for 3 weeks then stop for a week so you can have your period. After the 4th week, start taking them again. Sometimes your period won't start right away and may still be going when it's time to start taking the pills again but that's OK, start up after week 4 with your new month's pills as directed. So that you don't forget, some pill come in a container with three weeks of pills and 1 week of placebo pills (ie pretend pills, like sugar water pills). With this type you don't have to remember when to start and stop, you just take a pill every day and during the time you're taking the fake pills you have your period. They have just come out with a pill that you take in such a way that you only have a period once every 3 months, which sounds great to me. But if you are taking regular birth control pills where you're suppose to stop for a week for your period but just don't stop so you never have a period, that's not good for you and I'm sure your doctor who prescribed the pills wouldn't approve. I've heard of (and done it) people who are, like going on a vacation right when they are suppose to be on their periods. So they stop taking their pills a week early to get their period over with then take that extra weeks pills with the next cycle so you go 5 weeks then one time before getting a period. A little juggling like that has never hurt anyone I know of and almost everyone I know who takes or took the pill did that at one time or another.Do you really have to get your period every month by no longer taking your birth control pills?
its reeeally bad for you if you keep taking them continuously. i think you can take it for an extra week or something if you had a particular event you dont want your period for, but youre period's there for a reason, its getting rid of what doesnt need to be there.

im not sure what would happen, but everything that comes out in an average period...where else would it go?

so no, wouldnt advise it, it would be nice to be able to miss them out entirely though:)
