is it possible? How do you control a horse with using no bridle?
Yes it is very possible! If you have a good relationship with your horse based on trust, respect, communication, imagination, and rapport. I am learning lvl 2 in Pat Parreli's natural horsemanship techniques and am well on my way to riding and playing with my horse without a bridle or halter/rope etc. Here are some amazing videos of other people doing it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ow2yDdRK_鈥?/a> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ht2T7x5AX鈥?/a> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vG_Whzwx鈥?/a> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQsNJc4VI鈥?/a> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqi0NlPvM鈥?/a> .. It is not something you can easily do with your horse training and riding in the traditional way. But can be achevied with a greater understanding and bond between horse and human, when you can get your horse to do nearly anything by simlpy asking. How do you control a horse with using no bridle?
Yeah, what he said. Right heel means turn right, left heel means turn left. Also, lean toward the way you want the horse to go. I've seen some dependable old farm horses let people use their mane to tell them which way.
I personally would feel more secure snapping a couple short lead ropes onto the halter. It's faster than bridling, and gives you a lot more control. If for some reason the horse did spook and run, you can pull one rope on one side and make the horse circle till it calms down.
yes- if your horse is well trained. A well trained horse (any discipline) should move off your seat and legs. If you sit back in the saddle- slow down or stop (depending on discipline) and you go up a gait with the leg, and steer with your legs and seat bone.
My bridle broke in the middle of a dressage test once (luckily just training level, so nothing fancy) and I finished the test only using my seat and legs- sure, we didn't stop directly at x and my transitions were rough, but we finished with no rein contact.
Its poss!!!! I showed my baby to do it with pressure, a good understanding of the horse and i used his mane for a extra cue.
its unsafe if u are unexperienced or on a bubbly horse, if i was in my horses pasture riding him with no bridle i would probably nearly die. but for your sake, as a horseback rider, you should already know how to use your legs as aids instead of reigns and if you dont, practice first. use reigns and stear your horse with leg pressure and seat wieght before trying it out of the blue. but you asked ';is it possble'; yes it is, but you must have a sound horse and good seat. you must be strong enough to hold yourself in the standing postition bareback over a jump and not fall back or foward. i would not sugjest it personally.
Yes, totally possible. When your horse knows to release to the slightest bit of pressure and can rotate hinds around forequarters and visa versa and can side pass, back, etc. Then all it is then is your soft cues with your body. Your seat, your legs your upper body, etc. Every time you move your upper body it sends cues down your legs whether you know it or not. It is getting your horse sensative enough to pick up on these cues.
It is way fun and the possabilaties are endless when you get that far.
I have gotten this far by using Parelli. To check it out go to www.Parelli.com
Good luck and have fun!
lol just to let you know.....i couldnt just jump on my horse....she is WAY to tall to be jumping on....I would have to find something to stand on....but I could control her with the pressure on my legs....she's a barrel racer so she repsonds to her turns when you put pressure on her sides.....to get her to stop all you have to say is ';whoa'; and she stops right then and there.....to get her to walk you click slowly...to get her to trot you click faster and the faster you want her to trot the faster you click....to get her to lope you kiss at her...to get her really moving you kiss to her a lot.
it is possible with a very controlled seat, good leg indication and posture.
My son does with his ever patient saint of a mule, he just taps on the side of his neck and he turns.
Would I do it, heck no...
It can be done with leg and seat and verbal cues.
I'm lucky to be riding with just a string around their neck......
i dont think your horse has to know anything but you if you trust your self and your horse as your partner than only you would know if thats going to work for you not anyone else trust your self and your horse
Yes it is, as long as the horse is exceptionally trained by leg and seat aids.
It takes a lot of training- I ride a horse bridle less and bareback. He is trained to neck rope first, so I use my hands on either side of his neck to direct him and my body weight to steer. If I sit up and take a breath he stops dead. I actually practice my dressage tests this way, it helps me to relax my seat (to which a horse is very sensitive) and turn my body properly (to avoid riding stiff) I would not recommend this with every horse, you need to instill voice commands first, and teach them with a neck rope and a bridle ( just in case!)
It is a lot of fun!
its possible... use ur voice 2 control speed %26amp; ur legs 2 steer... its fun... if in doubt, JUMP!!!
Well first, your horse has to be trained off leg. You need to start with a bridle and gop to a knowledgeable trainer for help. Dont attepmt tp do this your self unless you are 100% sure because you can screw you horse up!
Any horse that is taught to work off the reins can be ridden without a bridle. I do not recommend this on the trail except in an emergency because of the lack of control if the horse chooses to run. However it can be done. A horse does not even need to be trained for it. They just need the cues to the neck.
it is very possible. i can do this with my horse. you just need to teach your horse to respond well to seat, leg, and voice cues.
well you cant really control them. U can see some people hold the mane, but you cant control them a lot. When you see people ride their horse in control with no bridle (usually western) it is b/c the horse is spur trained
yezzir, it is possible, but very hard.you must be on a well-disciplined horse that listens to even the smallest leg movement.b/c you will have to have a good seat.u will also have to control his/her turns by turning your waist.
